🥇 Is Garry Kasparov Better Than Magnus Carlsen
As a teenager, Magnus attends a group tournament in Iceland where he gets to play Garry Kasparov, who was then the world’s top-ranked player and had been for 20 years; Magnus is ranked #786.
Honestly Garry is probably better than Magnus even tho Magnus has higher rating. Why do I say that, for one Kasparov actually coached Carlsen for a period of time, and in the two games they actually played each other, kasparov drawed one as black and won one by a landslide as white.
Bobby Fischer was the better chess player of the 3 players. With an incredible Elo advantage of 125 Elo better then any other player of his generation and field of players. IMO GM Robert James Fischer is the best chess player. And I have watched GM Magnus Carlsen, GM Garry Kasparov, and GM Robert Fischer play in my lifetime.
I understand that Kasparov lasted more than 20+ years as champion, but Carlsen has been the image of modern chess in mainstream media for quite a while, and he’s still in his 20’s. That was achieved by Garry Kasparov, who in the July 1999 FIDE list reached 2851 points. Two other players have at some stage had higher ratings than Magnus.
The first world number one, in July 1971, was Bobby Fischer. In January 1976 Anatoly Karpov became the highest-rated player on the FIDE list, FIDE having dropped Fischer (whose rating was higher than Karpov's) from the list due to inactivity. In January 1984, Garry Kasparov became the third world number one. He would dominate for some 22 years
The computer takeover of chess occurred, at least in the popular imagination, 25 years ago, when the IBM supercomputer Deep Blue defeated world champion Garry Kasparov.
In a recent one-hour interview on the Echo of Moscow radio station the 12th World Chess Champion Anatoly Karpov talked about how Magnus Carlsen compares to Bobby Fischer and himself. Although he feels Carlsen is yet to reach the same level he notes that the young Norwegian is a better leader of the chess world than Vladimir Kramik or Viswanathan Anand before him. Karpov also talks about the
